Several of John Amenas Fite’s letters written during the Civil War have survived. This letter to his sister KateĀ from December 15, 1864 was written when he’d already been at Johnson’s Island Federal Military Prison for over a year and had about three months to go before being released in the last exchange of the war. Despite losing a hundred pounds during his imprisonment it is evident from reading this letter that his spirit was undaunted! To see the completeĀ letter CLICK HERE.
